The creative team behind the concert program “An Evening of Singing | Concert–Research” includes the seasoned vocal ensemble PUTNI, composer Evija Skuķe, director and actor Varis Klausītājs, and dramaturge Ansels Kaugers.

In addition to new works specially composed by Evija Skuķe, the program featured fragments of compositions by Juris Ābols, Georgs Pelēcis, Hildegard of Bingen, and other Latvian and international composers.

The concert performance was based on an extensive research project, including interviews with Latvian choir and vocal ensemble singers, exploring the meaning of singing in a person’s life. Why do I sing? Where does the magic of singing lie? Why is singing so important in Latvia? The project collected stories of both inspiring and traumatic vocal experiences, as well as humorous episodes — the kind that are familiar to anyone involved in choir or ensemble life.
